Housing Market Turning Point: Setting the Stage for a New Real Estate Cycle

Housing affordability appears to be rebounding off of historic lows despite economic uncertainty thanks to downward-trending mortgage rates, growing household incomes and softening housing prices. The housing market is still very diverse throughout the country, with some regions experiencing worse effects of the frozen labor market and slow wage growth while others are appearing more buyer-friendly with increasing inventory and less supply-constraints. While it is still early to make a definitive judgment about the trajectory of where the housing market is headed on a national scale, signs of recovery should keep both builders and buyers optimistic about the real estate cycle’s journey towards neither a boom nor a bust, but balance.
