How Arkansas’s timber university building could revolutionise architecture

The University of Arkansas recently gained attention for the Anthony Timberlands Center for Design and Materials Innovation in its Fay Jones School of Architecture. It serves as a new studio and workshop showcasing the future of sustainable architecture, allowing students to work on new timber productions and designs in an inspiring environment. As Arkansas is known for its vasts forests and timber industry, the building has visible wooden beams and rafters visible overhead and hopes to change the conversation for Arkansas’ forest industry to target sustainable construction and building.

According to Peter MacKeith, Dean of the University of Arkansas’ School of Architecture, the project intended to create “a building where thinking and making were inseparable.”
