Trends interior designers are leaving in 2025
As we look into what is forecasted to trend in 2026, it is important to notice what interior designers are noting as outdated. Weighing on on what’s out are interior designers across the country. A large consensus feels that the open concept design reached its peak. What was directed from the need for less formal spaces, leaved many clients with uncertainty. “Spaces need purpose and intimacy.” said Hannah Jacobus, director of interior design for Liz Lidgett Gallery + Design in Des Moines, Iowa. “We crave coziness and connection now more than ever, and that often means a bit of separation; exactly what’s missing in an open floor plan.”
Following this, the minimalist trend of neutral and all-white interiors, is sucking the life out of spaces. “[it] can feel flat and one-dimensional.” said Adrianne Bugg, principal and co-owner of Pillar & Peacock Interior Design in Florence, Alabama. “We’re ready for more warmth, contrast, and personality in our spaces.” This shows a trend from clients of craving more connectivity in spaces rather than showroom-esq clean and tidy interiors.
The market outlook is craving intentional spaces, ones that balance style and liveability. “The era of designing to impress rather than designing to live is fading fast and good riddance,” said Jacobus.
