Leaving a Legacy
In 2009, Doug Bauer, Tom Mitchell and Mike Grubbs set off on their own during the Great Recession to create what they hoped would be the generation of homebuilders. Originally beginning in California and Colorado, the company merged with Weyerhaeuser Real Estate Company. The merger created one of the top ten largest public homebuilding companies in the United States.
Tri Pointe Homes’ Design Studio won Gold at The 2025 Nationals, the building industry’s most prestigious recognition for excellence in sales, marketing, design, planning and customer experience, put on by the National Association of Homebuilders.
“Our goal is to create a design experience that feels personal and distinctive, giving buyers the confidence and excitement of a custom home experience within a production environment,” said Sherri Drew, National Vice President of Design Studios, Tri Pointe Homes. “When we balance operational excellence with inspired curation, we’re able to help homeowners transform a house into something that genuinely feels like their own.”
Drew noted that the Design Studio is continuously evolving to meet clients with convenience, transparency and digital accessibility. A major focus has been enhancing visualization tools and completing the rollout of the flooring module, while beginning the expansion of their wall tile module. With these tools, customers can conveniently and transparently build and price flooring scenarios, as well as wall tile application.
“By streamlining these integrations, we’re reducing friction, improving accuracy and ensuring that selections flow seamlessly from the studio to construction,” said Drew.

Comfort and Style Combined
Emberly, Tri Pointe Homes’ latest community project, redefines premium design with spacious floorplans and expansive indoor-outdoor connectivity. Located in Gilbert, Ariz., the luxury community was built with an exceptional blend of elegance and comfort.
The 32-acre gated community was designed to encapsulate the city’s amenities, conveniently surrounded by parks and hiking trails to optimize wellness-integrated living.
Wooden flooring in the bedrooms match the warm toned walls, creating a welcoming environment in a room meant to be a safe space.
Kitchens were designed with sleek, minimalistic elements for aesthetic and functionality. A calm color palette inspires tranquility, accented with openly-spaced design to prioritize daily efficiency. Large, window-frame sliding doors open up to the backyards for outdoor connectivity in the kitchens and dining rooms. With windows surrounding throughout, the natural light transforms the dining room, boosting clients’ wellbeing while adhering to lavish design.

Wellness-integrated Living
Tri Pointe Homes blends technology with wellness in the masterfully-planned community, Union Park. A combination of award-winning design and attainable luxury, the community in Little Elm, Texas, was recognized as Dallas Fort Worth’s Community of the Year at the 2024 McSAM Awards.
“These homes stand out through thoughtful architecture, elevated finishes and everyday functionality, designed to outperform expectations,” said Doug Bauer, CEO of Tri Pointe Homes.
Wellness-integrated living was the primary goal, with a fitness center, multiple pools, walking trails and other amenities conveniently located within Union Park.
Each home plans to prioritize comfort with energy-efficient qualities, including Low-E glass windows, Energy Star certified appliances and HVAC equipment. Air returns in every room enhance comfort and performance, with ceiling fans included in the great rooms and primary suites, as well as a MERV 13 air filter.

Bathrooms were designed to elevate daily routines with 36-inch vanities in primary suites, ceramic tile surrounds, enclosed tiled showers, elongated commodes and sleek Delta fixtures throughout. The kitchens open to the great rooms furnished with broadloom carpets. The homes’ openness also accounts for multi-general living, accounting for liability in the homes through every stage of life.
Tri Pointe Homes continues to uphold its award-winning building standard, with a special focus on wellness carefully crafted into luxury homes.
