January Pub Notes

Hello Readers in print and online,

As we begin our 36th year serving U.S. home building, the industry continues to navigate dynamic forces, still high interest rates, labor challenges and a growing demand for homes that combine lifestyle, resilience and long-term value. For builders, architects and design teams, success requires not just understanding the broader housing economy but also leading in design, materials and systems innovation.

Builder and Developer remains the only monthly print and digital publication serving the full spectrum of U.S. housing, from production homes to high-end custom and luxury projects. In 2026, we are showcasing more custom and luxury projects, providing insights on the strategies, materials and technologies that differentiate these homes in the marketplace and resonate with today’s homeowners.

A key highlight this year is our ABC Green Home 5.0 TerraVerde, a high-performance, American Buildable Certified demonstration home. TerraVerde will debut as a fully immersive virtual home this Fall, allowing home buyers, builders, designers and manufacturers to explore its advanced energy, resilience and sustainable features from anywhere. A grand opening in Temecula is planned for Fall 2027, turning TerraVerde into a real-world classroom for the building industry. Over a 24-month cycle, the project will document and showcase builder and consumer interest in hardened, resilient and sustainable high-performance home building, providing a blueprint for future developments. I am pleased to have the support of Jeff Montejano, CEO at The Building Industry Association of Southern California. We are extending an invitation to The BITA Academy for onsite job training to help with workforce development, once again.

We invite industry professionals to follow TerraVerde, learn from its insights and consider participating, whether through product integration, design collaboration, or educational engagement. TerraVerde represents a tangible opportunity to connect innovation with market demand, while supporting the evolution of homes that are safer, smarter and more sustainable. Reach out to me directly if you would like to participate.

Slainte,
