Under New Legislation the Texas Housing Market is Set to Change
In groundbreaking legislation passed in June, land that is already classified as a zone for existing uses could be turned into mixed-use residential housing without the need for a zone change. Thanks to efforts to solve the affordable housing crisis in Texas, Governor Greg Abbott signed SB 840 into law, a bill introduced by Senator Bryan Hughes that allows the repurposing of existing nonresidential buildings to create more infill housing. This allows developers to convert underused buildings without the expensive and time-consuming rezoning process.
