July 2025 central Texas floods
Flash flooding over the July 4 weekend in Central Texas claimed more than 120 lives and left at least 170 missing, marking the deadliest U.S. flash flood since 1976. More than 38,000 homes were potentially impacted in flood-affected counties, though actual damage totals are still being assessed. Recovery is expected to be long and difficult, especially as flood insurance coverage remains low in the hardest-hit areas despite not all properties within the flood footprint being damaged.
